The short answer
At DDS, a new gas boiler starts from €2,600 and a new oil boiler from €3,600. Those are "from" prices for a straightforward replacement in a typical home. Your price could be higher depending on the things below.
What affects the price
Oil or gas. Oil boilers cost more, partly because of the boiler itself and partly because of the oil supply and flue work involved.
Same place or a new spot. Putting the new boiler where the old one was is the cheapest option. Moving it means new pipework, a new flue position and more labour.
The size of the house. A bigger house with more radiators needs a bigger boiler.
The state of the system. If the radiators and pipes are full of sludge, a power flush before the new boiler goes on is a good idea. It protects your investment.
Controls. Upgrading thermostats and controls at the same time adds to the cost but can save money every year after.
Is there a grant for a new boiler?
Not for a straight swap of one oil or gas boiler for another. You'll see ads that suggest otherwise, but SEAI grants are focused on heating controls and on moving to heat pumps, not on new fossil-fuel boilers.
SEAI does run a heating controls grant (€700 at the time of writing) for homes built and occupied before 2011, and the work has to be done by an SEAI-registered contractor. Grant rules change, so always check the current details on seai.ie before you plan around one.
Repair or replace?
If your boiler is under ten years old and the fault is a single part, a repair usually makes sense. If it's 15 or more years old, breaking down every winter, and the repair bill is heading towards a few hundred euro, a replacement is often the better buy. Dave will price both so you can compare.
